Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that Wargaming Recon, lies on the traditional and unceded homelands of the Massachusett people, and that nearby regions are deeply connected to the Wampanoag, Pokanoket, Pennacook, Abenaki, Piscataway, and Susquehannock peoples. We also recognize the broader heritage of the Wabanaki Confederacy—also known as the Dawnland Confederacy—which includes many of these nations and others across the Northeast.

These Indigenous communities have lived in relationship with the land for thousands of years—cultivating, protecting, and honoring it—long before colonial borders existed. Despite centuries of displacement, violence, and cultural suppression, these nations continue to survive, resist, and revitalize their cultures, languages, and traditions today.

The Massachusett people are the original stewards of this region, from whom the Commonwealth of Massachusetts takes its name. The Wampanoag Nation, known as the People of the First Light, maintains a strong presence on the South Shore and Cape Cod. The Pokanoket, part of the Wampanoag confederation, were among the first Indigenous communities to make contact with English settlers. The Pennacook and Abenaki peoples inhabited northern Massachusetts and what is now New Hampshire and Vermont, forming part of the Wabanaki Confederacy, whose homeland—Dawnland—spans from Massachusetts to Maine and into eastern Canada. The Piscataway and Susquehannock peoples, though more commonly associated with the mid-Atlantic, had seasonal and migratory ties that reached into New England as well.

We offer this land acknowledgment not as a formality, but as a step toward truth-telling and recognition. We honor the past and present Indigenous peoples of this region and affirm their right to sovereignty and self-determination.
