CWF GameCast Visits BG Plainville

Raven's Avatar
Today I had the opportunity to visit Battleground Games & Hobbies new location in Plainville. I drove down there and Derek Lloyd, owner, gave me an advanced tour of the new store.

I spent about an hour speaking with Derek and managed to take a bunch of pictures. Before we get to the pictures I do want to say that the official grand opening will be sometime in October with a soft opening in September (this coming Saturday according to my source). If you’re in the area of 25 Taunton Street in Plainville then I suggest you come on down. I will be there in person, blogging, and hanging out. It will be fun to meet you and great for you to see the snazzy new BG store.

To see descriptions for each picture please check out our Facebook Photo Album titled BG Plainville.

Hermes Goes Live

Raven's Avatar
Hermes is now alive. Hermes is the new project from the CWF GameCast, which allows you to more easily communicate with us and allows us to more easily update you with announcements, works in progress, and highlights.

Hermes uses the P2 theme created by Automattic, the makers of WordPress, and espouses a Twitteresque feel. We are able to share text and media with Hermes. Anything from sound files, video, and screenshots can broadcast from us to you.

Although Hermes is a separate project you do not need to register if you want to leave comments. If you wish to be more involved then you are welcome to create a free account with Hermes.

In time you will see us to slowly migrating all announcements from here and onto Hermes. For now you can find them at either location.

We strongly recommend viewing the below video to learn how to use the special shortcodes that work with Hermes and all P2 blogs.

War at Sea: Recosting Units

Raven's Avatar
Any game that issues new product suffers from power creep. This is inevitable and many heated debates permeate the gaming world on how to deal with this. War at Sea has a large bullseye for its failure to properly deal with power creep.

Many units from out of print sets are simply unplayable when compared with units from newer sets. This issue has become more severe as sister ships were released. Why use a Bismarck when the Tirpitz is so much better? Many solutions to the problem are mired in their needless complexity. One Axis & Allies ForuMINI member found a way around this. Instead of altering special abilities (SAs) and other facets of gameplay why not just alter the points costs? The member is Fredmiracle and what he has done is brilliant for its simplicity. Recosting the units gets the job done and does it elegantly.

Below is a list of the units he has recosted. However, we suggest you read his original thread.

Battleground Games Replies to Review

Battleground Games & Hobbies was newly reviewed and awarded the first ever CWF Game Cast 100% score and second ever Editor’s Choice (the first for a brick and mortar store). Derek is the superstar owner of Battleground Games. I sent him a link to the review and he e-mailed me some remarks.

I always share the unedited comments from those discussed on this blog. Although this may be my soapbox, it is important for it to provide a reliable and balanced world view. Below is Derek’s e-mail.
