Editor’s Choice: 12-7-Games Review 96%

CWF Editor's Choice Award for Singles12-7-Games is an online retailer selling a handful of historical games and gaming supplies.  It is the second most popular vendor amongst Axis & Allies ForuMINI members. 12-7-Games both sponsors that community and provides special discounts to its members.

I was looking for an affordable vendor to purchase three singles to finish off my War at Sea: Condition Zebra collection.  I asked on the ForuMINI and was told to use the sponsors. One member said “try the sponsors, they’re the cheapest on the net.” Normally I purchase all of my War at Sea product from my friendly local game store, Battleground Games.  But, they don’t sell singles.

This review details my experience providing reflections based on my experience. I was not compensated for this review.  In fact, I’m never compensated for my reviews and if the day ever comes that I am or am given special review only product I will gladly say so at the start of the review.

Preparation

I didn’t have a lot to go by when choosing 12-7-Games other than a smattering of discussion on the ForuMINI and whatever information existed on the vendor’s website.  All of the comments were good but not as enthusiastic as I hoped. I compared the prices for what I wanted with two eBay vendors, and the other two ForuMINI sponsors. I discovered that 12-7-Games had the best prices (combined with shipping).

War at Sea: Condition Zebra Case 1 Pulls

My case of War at Sea: Condition Zebra has arrived courtesy of the Miniature Market. I am happy to announce that I received no duplicate rares in the case. Including the units pulled from the boosters purchased at Battleground Games in Abington my collection is now:

1 HMCS Uganda
1 Bearn
3 D.520
3 Lamotte-Picquet
1 Provence
2 V-156F Vindicator
1 Giorgios Averof
2 Proteus
3 Vasilissa Olga
3 Witte de With
3 HMS Cossack
1 HMS Royal Oak
1 HMS Victorious
2 Sunderland Mk. I
1 B-24D Liberator
3 USMC F4U-1A Corsair
2 USS Allen M. Sumner (DD 692)
1 USS Houston (CA 30)
1 USS Lexington (CV 2)
3 USS S-37 (SS 132)
0 USS West Virginia (BB 48)
1 Arkhangelsk
1 Vainamoinen
4 Fi 167
1 Gneisenau
1 Nurnberg
2 Z32
2 Ascari
0 Caio Duilio
3 Leonardo da Vinci
0 Trento
3 Z.506B Airone
2 Agano
2 Chikuma
1 Fuso
1 Junyo
3 Matsu
2 Murasame
2 N1K1-J “George”
1 Suzuya

For those who are keeping track, this means I am 1) only missing 3 rares (they are en route) and 2) the problems I had with missing units has since been rectified through local resources.

Now, the really good news for everyone is that I am now digitizing the stat cards. Only missing three units is a pleasant change for me. When Flank Speed released I purchased 3.5 cases and was still missing several units. Being able to purchase a single case and a few boosters yielding all but three units is simply amazing!

The digitization project will commence immediately. I will post scans as they are available with a goal of posting entire nations at a time. Like before I will be spreading out the scans. To answer your questions, yes this is to make you come back often looking for scans and yes it may be dastardly but this does work.

Lastly, please note that usage of the scans must comply to the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share alike 3.0 Unported license (as is everything on this blog). This is also mentioned in the readme file included with the zipped scans. The basics of the license is that you cannot use the scans for commercial reasons, you must state that I scanned them, you must provide a link to the scans (either www.wargamingforums.com or the individual scan), and you must share the scans under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share alike 3.0 Unported license so people have equal access and will know about the lengthy effort I put into this digitization project.

War at Sea: Condition Zebra First Pulls

I’ve been anxiously waiting for my case of Condition Zebra to arrive and couldn’t stand waiting any longer. Today I gave up the wait, drove to Battleground Games in Abington, and purchased two boosters.

This gives me a start on the scanning project and marginally sates my appetite for shiny new War at Sea minis. My two boosters were hand-picked by star store employee Chase, happy birthday by the way, which yielded amazing pulls.

My first booster was torn apart to reveal:
11/40 HMS Cossack
24/40 Fi 167
30/40 Leonardo Da Vinci
32/40 Z. 506B Airone
34/40 Chikuma

The second booster provided:
4/40 Lamotte-Piquet
10/40 Witte de With
16/40 USMC F4U-IA Corsair
19/40 USS Lexington (CV2)
37/40 Matsu

Each booster overwhelmingly favored different sides. Between the two I have a start of five Axis and five Allies units. I am very happy with my pulls. The USS Lexington helps to found out my USN carrier fleet while I have nice additions to my Axis air fleet and a strong replacement for the Ambra.

The Chikuma isn’t a terrible pull, but it isn’t from my top ten list. Wednesday is gaming night and these new units give me a chance to integrate the new set with my existing collection. I know it will provide interesting results.

Please visit again for my WAS Condition Zebra 600dpi stat card scans.
