WordPress 3.0.3 Update Completed

The CWF Game Cast has completed its update from its previous version of WordPress to 3.0.3. Why do this, you may ask. Instead of trying to explain it all to you, the WordPress people did a great job of it already.

Please read WordPress 3.0.3 at the official WordPress blog. That explains all the reasons why we are updating.

The upgrade was performed using the automatic upgrade plugin. As easy as bulls-eying womprats in a T16. We took the time to update our Hermes blog and to update plugins on both.

CWF Game Cast Episode 43: Welcome Cataclysm!

Co-hosts Jonathan J. Reinhart and Tom Barbalet discuss their weeks in gaming. Jonathan focuses on the Cataclysm expansion to World of Warcraft. Tom discusses a recent trip to a local game store, which he previously described as “unfriendly” but one that has a lot of Flames of War product.

Some discussion is held of Games Workshop’s failed attempt to place retail stores in New England. Tom mentions attending a convention in Mansfield in 2011. He says that he’d like to make it a real vacation and spend time visiting people he knows, Jonathan included.

Tom spends time promoting Youtube as a resource for gaming. He says it is possible to find helpful “How To…” videos on there for assembling, painting, terrain, etc. Beasts of War is highlighted in this regard as being a previous stronghold of videos.

Jonathan discusses the Gaunt’s Ghosts series of novels by Dan Abnett, focusing on Ghostmaker. He highlights its strengths and weaknesses while detailing how he obtained his copy. The novels are reminiscent of Bernard Cornwell’s Richard Sharpe series.

Jonathan then states that he is Facebook friends with former Games Workshop designers Alessio Cavatore and Gav Thorpe along with Black Library author Dan Abnett. He moves on to discuss War at Sea Set V being released. You can find our digitization project at War at Sea Stat Cards.

The pair finish up discussing the possibility of a monthly newsletter and renaming the podcast, blog, website URL, and everything. Listeners are asked to send their suggestions to rename the podcast. All suggestions will be taken under advisement. Please send podcast names to us at cwfgamecast at wargamingforums dot com or post them as a comment on the blog or on our Facebook page.

CWF Game Cast Episode 42: Battlestar Galactica Wiki and J. James Beaudoin

Co-hosts Jonathan J. Reinhart and Tom Barbalet discuss their weeks in gaming. Jonathan focuses on his recent game of Dungeons & Dragons. Tom discusses work on his Noble Warfare simulation. A lively discussion, in which the pair disagrees, of Games Workshop price points for models ensues.

The focus is guest J. “Joe” James Beaudoin and his many endeavors but mainly the Battlestar Galactica Wiki. Joe discusses his work as VP of White Eye Productions, a burgeoning independent comic company where he sheds light on the company’s founding and pending storylines.

He spends time discussing the Battlestar Galactica Wiki from its formation, growth, buyout offer from Wikia, and its future in a post-BSG world. Joe speaks briefly about his work with Propworx, a company that auctions props from TV shows, and his work with Anovos.com.

Everyone spends some time discussing funding models touching on Google ads, sponsorship, and the “PBS” appeal that is being utilized by Wikipedia.

Jonathan closes out the show with a plea for listeners to give to the less fortunate this holiday season. He highlights The Whiz on Rte 9 East in Westborough, MA as a Toys for Tots drop off location. Please bring a new and unwrapped toy or game to The Whiz and leave it at the designated Toys for Tots bin. Or, donate your Whiz Rewards and The Whiz will donate 110% of its value to Toys for Tots.

Podcast Episode 42 Delayed

Episode 42: Battlestar Wiki with Joe Beaudoin will be delayed. This episode, recorded yesterday on Talkshoe, has not been released by them for us to edit and publish to our listeners.

They normally release a recording the same day, which allows us plenty of time to edit the episode so that we meet our late Monday/early Tuesday weekly release.

We sincerely apologize for this delay and any inconvenience it may cause our listeners. We are doing our best to get the recording from Talkshoe and will edit, then release, it as soon as we can.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
