ReCast: Electronic Gaming & Censorship – Wargaming Recon #2

Pong

Due to illness and scheduling conflicts the Sutherlands couldn’t be on the show. So, NO NEW EPISODE right now. To make up for it we’re sharing this episode from the vault. The classic episode comes to you from the dark ages where the show had a different name. Since this is a CLASSIC episode some of the links, content, giveaways, contests etc may be out of date or ended.

Don’t worry! Next time we’ll be back with a NEW episode of Wargaming Recon.

Host Jonathan J. Reinhart releases a short show discussing some of the best-selling video games in the years preceding 2006. A portion of the show discusses attempts to censor video games.

Extra Life 24hr Game-a-thon 2014

Extra-Life-GameaThon

The Extra Life is a charity with the purpose of helping ill children. There are many children out there who suffer from scary diseases. On a daily basis these kids deal with diseases like cancer and cystic fibrosis to name two.

Some of those kids have families who cannot afford to pay for the potentially life-saving treatment. What happens when they can’t pay? I’m sure you can guess. This is where Extra Life steps in.

Extra Life raises funds for children’s hospitals so that kids can get their much needed treatment regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Rich or poor…they receive the treatment they need.

I have a little cousin named Gracie. Gracie was born with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). It is an awful illness. At the most basic level causes the body to make lots of incredibly thick mucus. This gunk clogs up organs like the pancreas, intestines and lungs. People suffering from CF don’t live as long as you and I. Many of them die very young.

Every so often Gracie needs to go to Boston Children’s Hospital where they remove that gunk. It is unpleasant and also necessary. Boston Children’s Hospital goes above and beyond to care for Gracie and to do it in a way that makes the unpleasant more pleasant. They just GET kids and families. They know how to help.

There’s many children’s hospitals across the US just like Boston Children’s Hospital. Each of them needs our help. This is why I’m fundraising for the Extra Life 24hr Game-a-thon. All funds raised from my participation are earmarked for Boston Children’s Hospital.

Y-O-U can help too. Here’s how:

  1. DONATE to the Extra Life 24hr Game-a-thon (it is tax-deductible).
  2. Spread the word to your family and friends. Use social media! Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest are some ways you can promote this charity.
  3. Be a participant in this year’s 24hr Game-a-thon.

On October 25th I will game for 24 hours. A small group of people will game with me. Throughout the day you can find me live tweeting at Troll in the Corner with Ben Gerber (the guy who got me into this several years ago). The Wargaming Recon Facebook page and Twitter account will share photos and blurbs about my progress. I may even take some live video.

Playing games may sound carefree and fun. It is fun but it is also a lot of work. On November 24th Episode 127 of Wargaming Recon releases. It is devoted to everything that happened at or is related to the Extra Life 24hr Game-a-thon on October 25. If you don’t get to see the live tweets and Facebook updates or if you just want more info, then Episode 127 is for you.

As I write this I can tell you that I have raised $160 of my $200 goal. With your help I can reach my goal and together we can help kids in need.

Please consider DONATING to the Extra Life 24hr Game-a-thon.
