We are hosted by BlueHost, which is a wonderful hosting service for blogs running WordPress. They have informed me that they will be moving us to another less populated server within 48-72 hours. The server we are currently on is getting fuller and BlueHost wants to ensure that they provide optimal service. They will try to do the actual move overnight to minimize the impact.
We will be actively monitoring the situation during the move. There shouldn’t be any hiccups, BlueHost is very good, but any server move comes with some risks ranging from data loss to extended downtime.
During the move there may be some problems accessing the blog.

Although we are a blog dedicated to New England gaming we are accessed from across the globe. I looked in Woopra today at the stats and everything seemed in order. We have almost 30,000 unique visits since Woopra was installed but I stumbled across something really surprising.
Woopra lists the languages used by visitors and English, of course, is the most popularly used. Coming in at #2 is German with almost 4% of visitors speaking German. Below is a list of the top 10 languages used by visitors and their percentages.
- English 75.4%
- German 3.57%
- Unknown 3.46%
- French 3.2%
- Spanish 2.63%
- Polish 1.91%
- Italian 1.87%
- Dutch 1.35%
- Portuguese 1%
- Russian .78%
This says that almost 20% of visitors do not speak English as their first language and may have some difficulty fully using the blog. To combat that I decided to translate this blog into each of those languages. This is now a NEW FEATURE.
Visitors to the blog can automatically translate any post, page, etc on this blog into another language. The sidebar on the right has a widget titled TRANSLATOR. The visitor need only click the flag representing the language they wish to use and the blog will automatically be translated. It may take a moment of two for the translation to complete so please be patient.
Visitors can also use some short cuts that will work for some of the languages.
In addition to the above languages visitors can also choose from the following
- Chinese (Simplified)
- Chinese (Traditional)
- Arabic
- Catalan
- Filipino (for my friend Paul)
- Hebrew
When we see more visitors using other languages we will activate them as well.
Lastly, we have purchased another domain name. Visitors can access us using the shorter URL of WarAtSea.net. It automatically redirects to WarGamingForums.com for your pleasure.

With the Swine Flu pandemic, now called H1N1 to protect those in the swine industry, floating around the globe and rearing its head in Massachusetts it is important to remember some basic health etiquette To Do’s for Gamers.
Gamers get a bad wrap for cleanliness as evidenced by DorkTower 4 Gamer Hygiene. But, by following the below steps recommended by the CDC we can each continue to game in public, be healthy, and prevent the spread of Swine and other types of Flu.
6 Good Health Gamer Practices
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- Don’t use other people’s dice, models, rulebooks, supplements, or gaming materials. (This comes from me)
- If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. (I think you should also seek medical help from your doctor but inform them before you appear in person that you suspect you have the flu so they can take necessary precautions to prevent its spread).
These are all good hygiene practices that we should observe every day. No matter how well we take care of ourselves we can always use a kind reminder. You can find out more information from the CDC about Swine Flu by clicking the big graphic of a bar of soap below. It will also tell you how many reported cases of Swine Flu exist in your state. There’s a lot of hype about Swine Flu, more than it deserves in my opinion, but there is no need to panic. We should all continue to go out in public, shop, and most importantly GAME at your Friendly Local Game Store. Don’t let the hysteria over H1N1 prevent you from attending your usual D&D game, Star Wars Minis event, War at Sea gathering, Friday Night Magic, or 40k league.
Use common sense and follow the 6 Good Health Gamer Practices. It will all be safe. This has been a public service announcement brought to you courtesy of the Centers for Disease Control.

We have experienced some difficulties with the registration format. It caused some problems for new members that prevented them from logging in and from using the automatically generated password. We have fixed these problems.
Additionally, we made some other changes to the registration format. As always we strongly suggest that you Register Your FREE Account to fully utilize this blog. The #1 benefit to this is that you can Write Your Own Posts, which automatically publish to the blog.
Changelog
We have changed the confirmation deadline from 3 to 5 days. You must confirm your registration in order to log in. You receive an e-mail with a link to confirm your registration.
You may now create your own password during registration.
