Raven\'s AvatarPrivateer Press has issued a press release about their upcoming comic miniseries focusing on Monsterpocalypse.  It is reprinted below.

Privateer Press and Across the Pond Studios have teamed up to create a new comic miniseries, published by Desperado, introducing the world of giant monsters from Privateer Press’ upcoming Monsterpocalypse Collectible Miniatures Game (CMG).

Across the Pond Studios is working closely with the game designer and creator of Monsterpocalypse Matt Wilson to bring the world of the game to life on the comic page. In addition to creative direction from Matt Wilson, the series credits include story by Stephan Nilson (Smallville and Batman Strikes), script by Jason Avery and Stephan Nilson, pencils by Karl Waller (X-Men and Motorhead), inks by Rick Bonilla (Atomik Mike), coloring by Barry Williams (Atomik Mike), and cover art supplied by the Privateer Press stable of artists.

This is a great way to reach out to comic fans in addition to gamers thereby expanding the game’s base.  PP is further expanding on this in two ways.  First, people who collect issues 1-3 of the comic will be able to get a FREE Limited Edition Mega Sky Sentinel.  This method has been used by PP before in conjunction with No Quarter Magazine and Warmachine (limited edition Eiryss).

Secondly, anyone who goes to the San Diego Comicon in July can get a FREE issue #0 of the comic at the Privateer Press booth.

Privateer Press sent a recent e-mail about their upcoming game Monsterpocalypse.  Everyone who signed up for Monsterpocalypse news should have received the e-mail.  It contained some exciting news about a new blog devoted to the game.

Below you can see the entire e-mail they sent.  It is quite interesting.

Psst! Hey you! Yes, you!

Here’s some Monsterpocalypse™ news just for subscribers to the Monster Watch

Newsletter!

Industry veteran Erik Yaple, our new head of Monsterpocalypse development,

has started a blog to give you an insider’s look at the development of the

CMG.  You can find it at:

http://www.monsterinsider.net

He’s kicking things off with a little background on his own bad self, and

sharing the exciting details of the game already in development. Here’s a

snippet:

“One of the aspects of the game that really surprised me was the ‘power

attacks’. These special moves allow you to address your opponent’s models in

a plethora of unique ways. You can throw your opponent’s monster through

buildings and into vats of radioactive material or knock buildings over onto

your opponent’s models to crush them. While power attacks are the cherry on

top of the ice cream sundae of awesomeness that is Monsterpocalypse…”

In the days and weeks to come Erik will be bringing you the inside scoop on

the development of the game.  Tell your friends you heard about it here

first, and that they can sign up for the Monster Watch Newsletter too at

Privateer Press hopes to make a great game yet again with the release of Monsterpocalypse in 2008. This is Privateer Press’ foray into the collectible miniatures gaming market and will focus on monster battles.

“We’ve had great success in the hobby miniatures category, and we will continue to support and expand our offerings there. We are excited to grow the company in this new direction. Creating a property about giant monsters is a natural fit for us and something I’ve always wanted to do.” said Monsterpocalypse, Warmachine, and Hordes creator Matt Wilson.

The folks at Greenfield Games aptly sum up this news; “The prototypes look cool but the proof is in the execution. One need only look at the difference between the prototypes and production models of Battlefield Evolution series to know what I’m talking about. If this stuff is on par with, say, AT-43 models then they have a winner on their hands. If not… who knows.”

Like D&D Minis this new game will have large monsters and like Axis & Allies 1939-1945 it will have a non-randomized Starter kit and randomized boosters. The game will release with 80 collectible figures. You can receive updates on Monsterpocalypse by going to the Monsterpocalypse page and signing up for e-mail updates (at the bottom of that page).
